A Message from The Church Pension Fund Board of Trustees

Dear Friends:
Throughout the past year, The Church Pension Fund Board of Trustees (CPF Board) has focused on the financial strength of the Church Pension Group (CPG), its strategic foresight, and its ongoing commitment to listening to and learning from the people and institutions of The Episcopal Church. Trustees consistently emphasized the importance of preparing CPG to serve an evolving Church while remaining grounded in its purpose.

Healthcare remained a significant focus. The CPG team launched several new enhancements in 2025, including online benefits billing and Quantum Health navigation services. For many, paying bills online and having someone to help maneuver through the healthcare system were well received. For others, the transitions were challenging.

The CPF Board was pleased to see how focused CPG was on understanding the root causes of issues and how transparent CPG was with its clients as it sought solutions. The team’s detailed analysis of the identified issues, including the review of individual cases, to determine what was working and what needed improvement was proof of the organization's dedication to upholding the longstanding trust of its clients.

The CPF Board maintained close oversight of CPG’s financial strength through reviews of investment performance, audits, cybersecurity, and organizational results. Through exploring each asset class in depth and stress-testing investment returns and liquidity, we have confidence in the long-term stability of the investment portfolio as well as continued support for CPG’s socially responsible investing approach.

The complexity of CPG’s work makes it essential for the board to maintain a well-rounded mix of skills and experience among trustees. Continuity in governance and oversight is essential, even as board membership shifts. This year, the Rt. Rev. Ian T. Douglas, PhD, stepped down from the CPF Board in accordance with board policy after CPG hired a family member. We were honored to welcome Jane Hamblen to fill the vacancy. Her expertise in corporate law and pension systems further enriches our collective perspective.

The CPF Board remains grateful for your confidence in us as we continue to serve those who serve our Church.
Faithfully,
Canon Anne M. Vickers (retired)
